1990s rave culture was a promise of freedom and community. A chance to let go of oneself and disappear into a collective ecstasy, floating on a soundscape of acid house and early techno. 'If It Were Love' explores the utopian dimension of rave culture through the eyes of the choreographer Gisèle Vienne's performance 'Crowd'. Fifteen young dancers let themselves dissolve into a community on stage, where their bodies move in graceful slow motion to an electronic banger song. Backstage, we meet them again in pairs, in conversations about love and identity. Performance and reality flow together into an artistic whole.
