This year’s jury, consisting of Nino Kirtadze, Eurimages Representative, Salma Abdalla, CEO of Autlook Filmsales, and Malin Hüber, Producer and Founder of HER Films, singled out 'Hana Korea' directed by Frederik Sølberg, produced by Sara Stockmann and co-produced by Heejung Oh as the winner of Eurimages Co-Production Development Award 2020.
Motivating their choice of 'Hana Korea', the jury stated:
“The jury decides to give the Eurimages Co-production Development Award to a project which is an organic co-production with a convincing concept and vision. It reflects in one person the universal search for the sense of belonging.”
'Hana Korea' follows Hyorin, a newly arrived North Korean refugee, in her transition to becoming an independent woman in South Korea. To be free, she has been forced to make the biggest sacrifices. Was it worth it? Can she let go of the past?
Due to the COVID-19 epidemic precautions, CPH:FORUM 2020 was carried out online in a virtual space created by the festival to facilitate individual meetings between selected projects and invited decision makers as well as spontaneous conversations of all CPH:FORUM delegates. Due to the circumstances, the Eurimages jury was meeting all projects individually, in prescheduled 1:1 meetings, rather than accessing a live pitch. “I personally think that, given the blockage of any shooting because of the COVID-19 crisis, supporting production companies by allocating development support to their projects becomes vital,” commented Roberto Olla, Executive Director of the Eurimages Fund, on the decision of carrying out the Eurimages award in the new set-up.
The winner was announced in the frame of the CPH:DOX 2020 award ceremony on Friday, March 27.
